Comparison

Lovense Max 2 vs Solace Pro: manual feel or automatic motion

Lovense's two main devices for penises work in opposite ways: one is held and contracts, the other is mounted and moves on its own. Both can be controlled from anywhere. Here is how to choose.

Lovense

Lovense Solace Pro

For hands-free control, at twice the price

Automatic and desk-mounted, it suits sessions where one partner hands control over completely, and its fine stroke adjustment has no equivalent on the Max 2. The trade is weight, splash-only water resistance and the highest price in the range.

These two devices answer the same need with opposite designs. The Max 2 is held and works by contracting around the user, with vibration on top. The Solace Pro sits on a mount and moves by itself. Both connect to the same Lovense Remote app, both can be controlled by a partner over any distance, and both can drive another Lovense device. The choice comes down to how you want it to feel and how much control you want to hand over.

Held and responsive, or mounted and automatic

The Max 2 keeps the user in charge of the motion; the device adds 360° contraction and vibration, adjustable in the app. The Solace Pro takes the motion over entirely: up to 300 strokes per minute by Lovense's figures, with stroke length adjustable in steps of 0.65 mm, on a mount that tilts through 180°. One is an accessory to the user's own rhythm, the other replaces it.

For long-distance couples

Both are what Lovense calls controller toys: their motion can drive a partner's device in real time. The Max 2 pairs two-way with the Nora, so each partner's device reacts to the other's, and one-way with the Lush 4 or the Edge 2. The Solace Pro pairs two-way with the Mission 2, and as a hands-free device it suits sessions where the partner at a distance is fully in control. Our guide to long-distance toys that work as a pair explains the modes.

The practical differences

  • Weight: 750 g against 1.2 kg, and the Solace Pro needs a surface for its mount.
  • Water: the Max 2 is IPX6 and the Solace Pro IPX4, so neither should be rinsed as a whole; on both, the sleeve is the part that needs regular cleaning.
  • Battery: the Max 2 runs 95 to 215 minutes depending on mode. Lovense states up to 14 hours for the Solace Pro, far beyond anything else in its range; treat it as a best case.
  • Price: at Lovense's own store, the Solace Pro cost about twice as much as the Max 2 when we checked.

Which one, then

Choose the Max 2 if you want a lighter, more affordable device, or a long-distance pair with a partner's Nora. Choose the Solace Pro if hands-free, automatic motion is the point, or if one partner wants to hand over control entirely, and the price and weight do not put you off.
