Lovense Max 2: contraction, vibration and the other half of the pair

The Max 2 is Lovense's long-running app-controlled device for penises, and the half of its best-known long-distance pairing that most buyers overlook. Here is what it does, what it pairs with, and where it falls short.

The verdict

The Max 2 is the sensible first choice among Lovense's devices for penises: lighter and more affordable than the automatic Solace Pro, with contraction and vibration controllable from anywhere, and two-way pairing with the Nora. Its limits are practical: it is heavy for a handheld device, only splash resistant, and fit depends on the sleeve.

Worth it if

  • Long-distance couples pairing it with a partner's Nora, or driving a Lush 4 or Edge 2
  • Buyers who want app and remote control without the price of an automatic device
  • Anyone who prefers a device they hold to one that moves on its own

Look elsewhere if

  • Anyone who wants hands-free, automatic motion, which is the Solace Pro's job
  • People who want to rinse the whole device under a tap
  • Buyers who would rather not deal with replacement sleeves over time

How it scores against our criteria

Every review is assessed against the method we publish. Read the method.

How it works
360° contraction combined with vibration, both adjustable in the Lovense Remote app or with the on-device buttons. It is held, so the user keeps control of the motion and the device adds to it.
Remote control and pairing
Internet-based control for a partner anywhere. As a controller toy, the Max 2 can also drive another device: Lovense documents two-way control with the Nora and one-way control of the Lush 4 and the Edge 2.
Battery
Between 95 and 215 minutes depending on the mode, a 100-minute full charge and up to 120 hours on standby, by Lovense's figures.
Materials, care and fit
ABS housing with a TPE sleeve. IPX6 means splash resistant: the sleeve is the part to clean, and the unit should not be rinsed under a tap. Lovense sells replacement sleeves, and at least one owner comment on its own site describes the contraction as tight, so fit is worth considering.
Weight
750 g, heavy for a handheld device, though well under the 1.2 kg Solace Pro.

Long-distance toys are often discussed as if they were all for one partner. The Max 2 is a reminder that the most interesting setups involve two devices, and that the partner at the other end can have one too.

What it does

The Max 2 combines contraction around the user with vibration, both adjustable in the app and from the device. Because it is held rather than mounted, the user sets the rhythm and the device responds; that is the main difference from the automatic Solace Pro, which takes the motion over entirely. Our Max 2 against Solace Pro comparison covers that choice in detail.

The pairing that makes it worth more

Lovense calls the Max 2 a controller toy: its motion can drive a partner's device. With a partner's Nora, control runs both ways, each device responding to the other. With a Lush 4 or an Edge 2, it runs one way, the Max 2 setting the partner's vibration. Any of these works over any distance through the Lovense Remote app; the guide to long-distance toys that work as a pair explains the modes.

Lovense Max 2 vs Solace Pro: manual feel or automatic motion

Lovense's two main devices for penises work in opposite ways: one is held and contracts, the other is mounted and moves on its own. Both can be controlled from anywhere. Here is how to choose.

Updated

Most long-distance devices let one person control the other. A few go further: each partner's device reacts to the other's in real time. Here is how that works, which combinations do it, and what to check first.

Updated

Long-distance control is what Lovense devices are best known for, and setting it up takes a few minutes. Here is what each partner needs, the steps in order, the three ways to share control, and what to check when it does not connect.
