Lovense and We-Vibe both make app-connected devices with long-distance control, and on a specification sheet their flagship products can look interchangeable. They are not, because the two companies design from different starting points. Lovense assumes the device will be controlled through its app, often by someone far away. We-Vibe assumes two people in the same bed, and treats the app as one way of controlling a device rather than the only one.
The short answer
- Mostly apart, or you want devices that respond to each other: Lovense.
- Mostly together, and you would rather not reach for a phone: We-Vibe.
- You want a well-made device with no app at all: We-Vibe, which still sells several. Every Lovense device we cover is app-connected.
- You care most about warranty terms: We-Vibe, with two years and a 100-day return window when bought direct.
Control: app first, or app as an option
Every Lovense device runs through the Lovense Remote app, with a button on the device for its built-in modes. Remote control, custom patterns and anything shared with a partner happen in the app. That is a strength when the partner is in another city, and a small obstacle when they are next to you: unlocking a phone and finding the right screen is slow enough to interrupt.
We-Vibe gives some devices a physical remote as well as the app. The Chorus has a handheld Squeeze Remote that responds to how hard you press it; the Moxie+ comes with a small wireless remote. Both still connect to the We-Vibe app, previously called We-Connect, for long-distance control. Not every model has a remote: the Sync 2 relies on the app and its button.
Long distance: where Lovense goes further
Both brands let a partner control a device from anywhere through their app. Lovense adds something we have not found in We-Vibe's documentation: devices that drive each other. Its controller toys, including the Max 2 and the Nora, send their own movement to a partner's device, and the Nora and Max 2 can do it in both directions at once. Our guide to paired devices explains how it works. If both partners having a device that responds to the other is the point, Lovense is the brand that documents it.
Range
Lovense covers more kinds of device, all of them app-connected: wearable eggs like the Lush 4 and Lush Mini, a panty vibrator, a rotating rabbit, an air-pulse suction device, a prostate massager, a couples ring, a wearable couples vibrator and devices for penises, including an automatic stroker. We-Vibe's range centres on couples wearables like the Chorus and Sync 2, with a panty vibrator, and simpler devices such as the Tango X bullet and the Touch X, which have no app at all.
Warranty, returns and cleaning
We-Vibe gives every device a two-year warranty, and orders placed directly with We-Vibe add a 100-day return guarantee. Lovense gives a one-year warranty and states a separate ten-year quality guarantee; read its terms for what the longer guarantee covers before relying on it. On cleaning the brands are close: most devices from both are fully waterproof, at IPX7 where a rating is published. The exceptions are on the Lovense side, where the Max 2 (IPX6) and the Solace Pro (IPX4) are splash resistant and clean through a removable sleeve.
Privacy: both have a history
Neither brand has a clean record, and it is better to know that before buying than after. In 2017, Standard Innovation, We-Vibe's owner at the time, settled a US class action for C$5 million, about US$3.75 million, over claims that its app collected usage data without users' consent. It did not admit wrongdoing, and agreed to delete the data it had collected and change its privacy policy. We-Vibe is now part of the WOW Tech group.
In 2025, security researchers reported two flaws in Lovense's systems: one exposed a user's email address to anyone who knew their username, and another could let an attacker take over an account. Lovense fixed the account flaw in July 2025, and by the end of that month the researchers and Lovense both said the email flaw was fixed too. Lovense said it had found no evidence that user data was misused.
Which to choose
- Decide how much of your time together is in the same room. Mostly apart points to Lovense; mostly together points to We-Vibe.
- If both partners want to feel each other at a distance, the choice is made: Lovense, with a pair such as the Nora and Max 2.
- If you want control without a phone, pick a We-Vibe device that comes with a remote, such as the Chorus or the Moxie+.
- If you are unsure the app will get used at all, start with a We-Vibe device that needs none.
